Let's Do This!
So it begins, the challenge of living one line at a time. No GUI and just a terminal.
In the past I've been a Linux user and picked up on commands through books and online. I'll need to brush up and have a cheat sheet of shortcuts. I'll be writing notes in my Kindle Scribe giving me the option to export these pages if needed. It's my favorite device to scribble on but dislike that it is locked down to Amazon.
Here are the specs of our little laptop for this experiment. A Lenovo Thinkpad A475. Originally came with Windows installed but from my research it also came with Ubuntu. Though that model was renamed to A485. I had the latest Ubuntu install but it was slow though everything was detected 100%.
Click for a readable size of the spec sheet.I've always been curious about Unix in general and decided to install FreeBSD. This is a very popular BSD with an abundance of documentation and a helpful community. I have been reading the FreeBSD handbook available on their official site and Absolute FreeBSD by Michael W. Lucas.
In the next post I will begin the install and write about my experience.
